Welcome to the FieldTurf Landscape Manufacturing Plant located in Calhoun, Georgia, the carpet capital of the world!
Our world-class facility is one of the most advanced in North America. We’re one of the only in the industry to have our quality management systems certified to ISO 9001-2015 and ISO 14011-2015, and our health and safety systems certified to ISO 45001-2018.
Over 50,000,000 sq. ft of carpet is produced here annually. We manufacture a variety of styles of artificial turf to offer our clients a truly custom-tailored solution. As every artificial turf project is unique, no two jobs are identical.

After being approved by our quality control team, the carpet is measured to the required length, cut, and wrapped to be sent to the dock for shipping.
After being loaded at the creel area, the fiber is fed into a sophisticated tufting machine. Once loaded, the fiber is passed through a needle and stitched into the carpet based on the turf’s specifications and pile height, which refers to the height of the fiber in the carpet. A standard 15ft turf carpet roll will have between 240 and 960 stitch rows. The quantity of stitch rows varies depending on the stitch gauge.
Once the carpet roll is produced, it’s sent into storage to be called on later for the next steps.
After passing through the oven, the carpet is collected in a specialized accumulator, which serves as a holding area. The machine’s sections are lowered and raised as needed to accumulate a larger amount of carpet so as not to have to stop the production line.
Before moving on to packaging, the carpet is thoroughly inspected by our trained quality control experts to flag any and all inconstancies in production. With an unwavering dedication to quality, our team is focused on ensuring diligent quality control.
Let’s get started with the creel area. The journey of every FieldTurf Landscape lawn begins here.
Fiber bobbins are loaded in the creel area by our specialized team, referred to as “creelers.” The area is fast-paced as bobbins need to be replaced frequently.
The yarn is tied to the existing fiber, which is organized by the needs of the tufter, depending on the needle count. The amount is determined by the carpet's stitch gauge, which refers to the space between the rows of fibers.
Let’s not forget about logos! Our FieldTurf Calhoun plant has a dedicated team to produce logos. Custom logos allow all projects to personalize their space. They are aesthetically pleasing and can be used at entrances, yards, training facilities, and commercial facilities such as entertainment venues and playgrounds. Our personalized logos allow you to showcase your brand while maintaining a flawless surface.
The process starts at our waterjet area, which cuts precise shapes of each color for the logo to be built. The pieces are then transferred to an assembly area where workers assemble the piece, like a puzzle set, to form the logo.
A specialized coating is applied to the seams of each piece to connect them all into one customized logo.
The carpet is then packaged and sent to shipping for delivery.
It can take between 40 to 50 hours to create one custom logo.
Once the assembly is completed, a team of inspectors reviews the logo to ensure proper assembly per the drawing design and corrects potential glue over-spill or glued fibers. Once finalized and approved, the logo is sent to shipping for transport.
The carpet is then coated with FieldTurf’s proprietary polyurethane application to lock the fibers in place. There exist two common methods of coating.
The finger-unit method coats only the rows of fibers and leaves the backing open for maximum permeability, resulting in leading turf drainage. FieldTurf invented the finger-unit method, contributing significantly to the company’s success.
The second is the solid coating and perforated method. The process fully coats the backing of the carpet.
With both methods, after the carpet gets coated, it will pass through the oven to cure the polyurethane and solidify the mixture. The perforated method, however, involves piercing holes into the carpet to allow water to drain once passed through the oven.
The last step is to package all the artificial turf rolls and wave goodbye. Over 150 trucks leave our Calhoun facility per week, which can easily double in high season.
The tufted carpet is then brought to a holding area to be assembled or belted together to enter the production line.

game-changing technologies to fuel meaningful performance, safety, durability, sustainability, and quality innovations.
Let’s tour the center.
Fibers and infill samples are subjected to IR light and radiant heat at the heat station to test how the individual parts and finished systems respond to heat and sunlight over time. Testing for heat absorption and dissipation to see how turf and infill systems react to sunlight and high heat environments.
The Instron area tests the forces and strength of individual turf components and combined finish turf systems.
Using a calibrated load cell, the Instron can measure several variables with the ability to accurately measure both pull and compression forces. In fibers and primary backing, the Instron can be used for testing tensile strength, elongation, and breaking strength. With infill systems, it tests compressive resistance, compression set, and recovery. The Instron measures tuft bind and adhesive strengths with finished turf material.
The Instron can be used for multiple ASTM standard testing and to create and execute new test methods to ensure our artificial grass meets the highest standards.
The impact testing area tests the turf system’s ability to absorb and distribute forces from simulated impacts. The testing can help evaluate the hardness of the system and its long-term characteristics to ensure it meets the required safety and performance needs.

At the heat station, Fibers and infill samples are subjected to IR light and radiant heat to test how the individual parts and finished systems respond to heat and sunlight over time. Testing for heat absorption and dissipation, to see how turf and infill systems respond to sun light and high heat environments.

Let’s get started with the creel area. The journey of every FieldTurf Landscape lawn begins here.
Fiber bobbins are loaded in the creel area by our specialized team, referred to as “creelers.” The area is fast-paced as bobbins need to be replaced frequently.
The yarn is tied to the existing fiber, which is organized by the needs of the tufter, depending on the needle count. The amount is determined by the carpet's stitch gauge, which refers to the space between the rows of fibers.
Let’s not forget about logos! Our FieldTurf Calhoun plant has a dedicated team to produce logos. Custom logos allow all projects to personalize their space. They are aesthetically pleasing and can be used at entrances, yards, training facilities, and commercial facilities such as entertainment venues and playgrounds. Our personalized logos allow you to showcase your brand while maintaining a flawless surface.
The process starts at our waterjet area, which cuts precise shapes of each color for the logo to be built. The pieces are then transferred to an assembly area where workers assemble the piece, like a puzzle set, to form the logo.
A specialized coating is applied to the seams of each piece to connect them all into one customized logo.
The carpet is then packaged and sent to shipping for delivery.
It can take between 40 to 50 hours to create one custom logo.
Once the assembly is completed, a team of inspectors reviews the logo to ensure proper assembly per the drawing design and corrects potential glue over-spill or glued fibers. Once finalize and approved, the logo is sent to shipping for transport.
The Instron area is used for testing the forces and strength of both individual turf components and combined finish turf systems.
Using a calibrated load cell, the Instron can measure several variables with the ability to accurately measure both pull and compression forces. In fibers and primary backing, the Instron can be used for testing tensile strength, elongation, and breaking strength. With infill systems it tests compressive resistance, compression set, and recovery. With finished turf material the Instron is used to measure tuft bind and adhesive strengths.
The Instron can be used for multiple ASTM standard testing and to create and execute new test methods to ensure our systems meet the highest standards.
The carpet is then coated with FieldTurf’s proprietary polyurethane application to lock the fibers in place. There exist two common methods of coating.
The Finger-unit method coats only the rows of fibers and leaves the backing open for maximum permeability, resulting in leading turf drainage. FieldTurf invented the finger-unit method, contributing significantly to the company’s success.
The second is the solid coating and perforated method. The process fully coats the backing of the carpet.
With both methods, after the carpet is coated, it passes through the oven to cure the polyurethane and solidify the mixture. But with the perforated method, a perforating machine pierces holes into the carpet to allow water to pass and drain through the system after the oven.
The impact testing area is used to test the turf system’s ability to absorb and distribute forces from simulated impacts. The testing can help evaluate the hardness of the system and long-term characteristics to ensure it meets required safety and performance needs.
The last step is to package all the artificial turf rolls and wave goodbye. Over 150 trucks leave our Calhoun facility per week, which can easily double in high season.
The tufted carpet is then brought to a holding area to be assembled or belted together to enter the production line.
